9 Bangladeshis killed in Riyadh fire

Nine Bangladeshis among 11 workers have been killed in a furniture factory fire in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Monday night.

The deceased Bangladeshi workers were identified as Md Jalal, Abdul Gaffar, Md Selim, Matiur Rahaman, Shah Alam, Nazir Hossain, Bahauddin hailed from Comilla, Md Akkas from Madaripur and Jakir Hossain from Feni, said an official of the foreign ministry.

Second Secretary of Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia Mohammad Mizanur Rahman confirmed about the death to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “The fire broke out in the factory of Titas Furniture around 10pm. Most of the deceased are Bangladeshis.”

Titas Furniture is owned by a Saudi however operated by two Bangladeshis – Raju and Mainul, he said.

“Raju is missing since the fire incident occurred and Mainul is believed to be in Bangladesh,” he added.

Four Bangladeshi survivors identified the dead bodies, the official said.
