The housing and public works ministry is likely to set up new office for directorate of government accommodation in all divisional cities across the country for put an end to the sufferings of the public servants regarding accommodation.
A proposal of the ministry has been sent to the finance ministry for approval, after getting the nod of the public administration ministry.
Director of the Directorate of Government Accommodation Ashraful Islam told the Dhaka Tribune on Thursday “We have taken this initiative to eliminate the sufferings of division level officials in getting allocation of official residences.
“The public works ministry is waiting for finance ministry’s respond to start its work. The offices would be established immediate after getting the approval,” he added.
According to the officials, the allocation activities of government accommodations are being done by two divisional offices of the directorate, one in Dhaka and the other in Chittagong.
These two look after the arrangement of around 20,000 government accommodation in the two divisions. Of those, around 14,000 accommodations are in Dhaka.
Rest of the division head quarters and districts officials housing are being allocated by deputy commissioners and executive engineers of the district offices of Public Works Department.
Considering the sufferings of the officials, the initiative of establishing new offices for five divisional head quarters were taken. The offices will look after the accommodations for the division level officials.
Ashraf said: “We hope that the finance ministry’ approval will come soon. We will start its work immediate after the approval, as we have already received approval from the public administration ministry.”
