Ferdous’ film Noy Chhoy will hit cinemas soon. Directed by Raffael Ahsan, the film is getting its release after a year of its making.
Along with celebrated actor Ferdous, the rest of the cast is comprised of Shahidul Alam Sachhu, Pran Roy, Moutushy and many more. The film is produced by Raffael as well, along with a bunch of young enthusiasts Rajib Kumar Datta, Naser Abdullah Al Naser and Aftab Hossain. The group received further support from renowned producer Khorshed Alam Khoshru, who helped them to complete the film.
Raffael Ahsan shares his experience with the Dhaka Tribune in an exclusive interview:
Why is the film being released after such a lengthy period of its making?
Independent film making is not an easy task, throw in limited budget and it becomes the ultimate challenge. From the very beginning, we had to manage working with whatever means available at hand, as we did not have the proper budget to work on. The shooting went on for a long period, whenever we were able to arrange money, we went for a shoot. The post production process was also a bit difficult, as it is our first film, we had experimented a lot.
On the other hand, we had to change the name of the film, previously, it was titled Sixty-nine Patla Khan Lane, which is an address. It came as a shock, as we never expected this development. Suddenly, we received a call from FDC notifying us that the owner of a house with the address of our film’s title has opposed in using his home address, as the title of our film. We even got a legal notice. We had to re-shoot and re-edit the film. But, we are thankful for the generous support from the Bangladesh Film Directors Association.
Why did you choose to make a comedy?
As a filmmaker, we want to come up with new approaches to filmmaking in our industry, where arranging proper budget and support for a film is a bit tough. A situational smart comedy is an interesting way to represent the truth easily with facts and practical scenario of the society.
What is the film about?
It is a fun-filled story about everyday life. Ferdous, the protagonist of the film plays the character of a middle class employee, who faces family problems and career pressure. The clash between his expectations from life and the crucial reality of life will be shown in a humorous manner. It might not be a commercial film, but we are promising an entertaining production.
