Bridge collapses on Bogra-Sirajganj road

Update : 16 Nov 2013, 04:32 AM

A bridge caved in taking down a truck with it on the Dholot-Sherpur road in Sirajganj on Saturday morning. Two people were injured.

Witnesses said the 30m bridge, in Mathpara area of Sirajganj, collapsed around 8am.

Bogra Roads and Highways Executive Engineer Jahangir Alam blamed the over-loaded truck for the incident.

“These baily bridges can take 5MT load. But this truck, carrying stones, was at least 30MT,” he said adding that it will not be possible to rescue the truck until afternoon.

“It will take at least four days to repair the bridge,” he said.

One of the injured Hasibul Haque, 40, was attending treatments at a local hospital. The other sustained minor injuries.

The Dholot-Sherpur road, which connects Dhaka to the north via Sirajganj route, remained suspended.
