Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has developed “Web based Geographic Information Services Application Software,” digital database for dissemination software under the digital information system project to realize the vision-2021 for making all the information and data related to the country available to the people at home and abroad.
The newly developed software, which is for the first time in Bangladesh would help software user to easily collect different kinds of information like census and surveys covering the divisions, districts, upazilas, unions and mouzas throughout the country, reports BSS.
Minister for Planning Air Vice Marshal (retired) AK Khandoker inaugurated the software as the chief guest by switching a button on a laptop at a programme held at the BBS auditorium on Sunday.
Planning Minister said the software has been developed with the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for quick implementation of the vision-2021 announced by the government.
Terming the ‘software’ as the milestone in developing the digital Bangladesh, he told the function that as the software would present all the censuses and surveys so far prepared by the BBS.
Top level managers, planners, decision makers and potential users will also be able get the benefit by using the software as they will get necessary inputs including map coverage immediately from any corner in the world, the minister mentioned.
Statistics and Information Management Division Secretary, Md Nazibur Rahman delivered speech as the special guest while Director General of the BBS Golam Mostafa Kamal chaired the function.
This kind of software would enrich the National Statistics System (NSS) and it will help get different necessary indicators like MDG, SDG, PRS and Sixth Five-Year Plan, said the Secretary while speaking on the occasion.
Later, the minister inaugurated the software switching the button of the laptop. Digital Information System Project of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics organized the function. High officials from different ministries, researchers, teachers, representatives from different government and non-government organizations, among others, participated in the function.
