Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the only son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Tuesday categorically said that defeating the Awami Leauge in polls was impossible.
“We strongly believe that the Awami League’s vote bank spans across the country. If the leaders of our party remain united and voters cast their votes, then it is not possible to beat this party,” he said.
Joy, who is being treated as the prime minister’s information technology adviser, was talking to reporters at the Dhanmondi office of the Awami League president on Tuesday during a break in a meeting with party leaders.
The meeting was arranged to decide the next course of action in party’s election campaign, Joy said, adding that: “The next elections are very important for the country.
Claiming that the government has implemented half of its pledges, he said: “It is very important for the Awami League to emerge victorious for the sake of implementing the unfinished tasks.”
In reply to a query, Joy said has plans for travelling around the country.
Sources said Joy had assured the party leaders that he would remain active on the field until the elections were held.
Joy also said the people of Bangladesh were forgetful and that was why the Awami League would launch a countrywide publicity campaign to remind people of the achievements of the current government.
Joy came to Bangladesh on September 5 to bolster the AL’s electioneering.
