International Master Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar is only a step away from clinching the title of the Bishal Trade &Rupahali Sarees 39th National ‘B’ Chess Championship after beating Taibur in the 10th round at the Chess Federation hall room yesterday.
Sagar, who was representing Dhaka Mohammedan, earned nine points from 10 rounds to seal the victory. The last round of the meet will take place today and a draw will be enough for Sagar to become the champion.
Meanwhile, International Master Abu Sufian Shakil, Sk Nasir Ahmed and Md Jamal Uddin were jointly placed second with eight points each while Fide Master Khaminul Islam and Debaraj Chatterjee of Access Group and Fide Master Rezaul Haque of Biman shared the third spot with 7.5 points each.
Taibur Rahman, Mehdi Hasan Parag, Mohammad Javed, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, Mahtabuddin Ahmed Robin, Shafiq Ahmed, Abdul Momin, Md Hasan Emam, Mohammad Hafizul Islam Chapal, Masum Hossain and Md Alamgir Hossain remained at fourth place with seven points each.
