MoU signed to combat chemical use in fish marketing

Department of Fisheries (DoF) on Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) and Rotary International to combat the use of harmful chemicals in fish marketing in the country.

DoF director general Arif Azad, BSFF chairman Mahmudul Haque and president of Rotary International District 3281 governor Ghulam Mustafa on behalf of their respective organisations signed the tripartite MoU at a ceremony at the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) in the capital.

The Rotary Club also handed over some formalin detection kits to the DoF.

Later, another MoU for building social awareness about food adulteration was signed between BSFF and ATN Times, a media company.

Speakers at the programme stressed joint efforts of the government, consumers and supply chain stakeholders to combat the use of harmful chemicals in the marketing.

Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) representative in Bangladesh Michael Thomas Roibson and Dhaka University teacher Rubaiyat Ferdous were also present.
