A Dhaka court Monday heard from another prosecution witness in the Bishwajit Das murder case.
Acting Judge Md Nuruzzman of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 Monday recorded the statement of Jakir Hossein Rony, a betel leaf seller.
The court also fixed August 21 for hearing testimonies from other prosecution witnesses. Nine witnesses, out of 60, have already testified before the court on different dates.
Bishwajit, 24, proprietor of Amantron Tailor at Shakhari Bazar in the old part of the capital, was hacked to death allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Jagannath University unit during an opposition road-blockade programme on December 9. A murder case was filed the same day by Sub-Inspector Jalal Uddin of Sutrapur police station.
The investigation officer of the case, Detective Branch Inspector Tajul Islam, pressed charges against 21 members of the ruling Awami League’s student wing on March 5.
So far, only eight of those charged have been arrested, while 13 others are on the run.
The eight detained men were produced before the court Monday. They are: Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, AHM Kibria, Quiyum Miah Tipu, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, Saiful Islam, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Shakil, Emdadul Haque Emdad and Golam Mostafa.
