Update : 30 Jul 2013, 04:35 AM

An armed Juba League leader of Dhaka city south unit with his cohorts gunned down a fellow party leader in the city's Gulshan area early yesterday.

The shooting was caught on closed circuit camera of Shoppers' World in Gulshan 1, where the incident took place.

In the video clip shown on various TV channels and posted on social media, a man wearing a white panjabi and talking on the mobile phone while shooting at Jubo League leader Riazul Haque Khan Milky at point-blank range can be seen.

The video footage showed how after being shot repeatedly, Riazul tried frantically to escape his assailant before collapsing on the road.

The shooter then fled from the scene on a waiting motorbike.

Quoting witnesses, police said a group of armed men shot Riazul Haque Khan Milky, 43, organising secretary of Dhaka City south unit of Jubo League, at close range around 1:30am when he was talking with friends in front of Shoppers World.

"The armed men took no more than 30 seconds. They rushed to the spot, shot at least 20 times indiscriminately and fled the scene," said an eyewitness.

He said the bullet-hit Milky was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 2am.

Meanwhile, members of Rab 1 arrested six people from the city's Uttara a few hours after the incident.

The arrestees are Jahid Siddiqui Tarek, joint secretary of the same Jubo League unit of Dhaka city south, and members Md Sujon, Rashed Mahmud,

Saiful Islam, Tuhinur Rahman and Mushtak Ali.

Lieutenant Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, director of Rab's intelligence wing told the Dhaka Tribune the Jubo League leader was killed because of an intra-party feud.

"We arrested Tarek with five of his cohorts as he directly took part in the gun attack," said the Rab official, adding Tarek himself was also wounded during the attack. He was admitted to a hospital in Uttara from where Rab arrested him.

"The detainees confessed to their involvement in the killing, saying they were engaged in a feud over establishing supremacy," he said.

Lt. Ahsan said after Tarek's arrest, they recovered the car, a Prado, which was allegedly used in the attack and brought the video footage captured on CCTV of the the shopping mall.

Sub-Inspector Maruf-ul-slam of Gulshan police station said no case had been lodged till filing of this report at 10pm.

However, Lt Col Kismat Hayat, commanding officer of Rab 1, said Major Rashedul Huq Khan Milky, younger brother of the victim, would file a case with Gulshan police station, accusing the six detained and two other Jubo League leaders "“ Zahidul Islam and Wahidul Islam Arif "“ who are absconding.

"All the detainees would be handed over to Gulshan police after filing of the case," he said.

The commanding officer said Tarek was a notorious criminal who was charged in a number of cases including several murders.

Meanwhile, Rab 1 arrested three doctors of Fortune Hospital in Uttara where Tarek was undergoing treatment after he suffered bullet wounds, fired by one of his own accomplices who took part in the attack on Rezaul.

"We arrested those doctors for concealing information," he said.

A separate case would be filed against them by Rab.
