Orascom Telecom Bangladesh Ltd, the second largest mobile phone operator having brand name as Banglalink, has changed its name to “Banglalink Digital Communication Limited.”
Orascom has been operating here for last eight and half years.
“It is not only a change of the company name, it also rebranding the company bypassing huge expenses,” a senior executive of Banglalink told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said the company fulfilled necessary formalities in changing the name from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Board of investment and Registrar of the Joint Stock Companies and Firms.
National Board Revenue (NBR) has not yet, however, approved the changeover and the company executives met NBR chairman Ghulam Hussain yesterday to discuss the issue, sources said.
Out of the six mobile operators, three companies have so far changed their names, including Banglalink.
Warid Telecommunication changed into Airtel Bangladesh Limited and Telecom Malyasia converted into Robi Axiata Limited.
