1 held with 17kg gold at Chittagong airport

A man was held along with 146 gold bars weighing 17kg at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Shah Newaj who hails from Khomdwip village in Boalkhali upazila of the district.

Airport sources said a Dhaka-bound United Airways flight from Oman via Chittagong landed at the Shah Amanat International Airport in the morning.

The cabin crew of the aircraft searched Newaj's luggage on suspicion at about 9:45am, when the flight was about to take off for Dhaka, and recovered the gold bars.

Later, Newaj was handed over to police and the seized gold bars were handed over to the customs authorities, said Susanta Paul, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Customs.
