The land ports and customs stations along the border with India will remain open in the holidays, including weekly holidays, during the month of Ramadan to facilitate smooth imports of essentials, including onions, from India.
The government decision to ensure smooth supply of the essentials up to Eid-Ul-Fitr takes effect from today, said a handout on Thursday.
“We requested the authorities of NBR and shipping ministry to open the land ports located along the Bangladesh-India border,” Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
Onions are selling at Tk42 per kg as compared to Tk45 a week ago. Besides, per kg of green chilli is now being sold at Tk80-120 as against Tk200 a week back
