The final stage of the college (graduate) intern recruitment process, which is the “on-boarding” programme of the chosen interns of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd (UBL) was held at the Unilever corporate office, where letters of acceptance were distributed to the interns-to-be, by the company’s HR Director, Mononita Syed Haq on July 4.

During the event, she interacted with the selected interns about the expectations of the interns and the company from the recruitment. She said: “Unilever always seeks a win-win situation. It is a prestigious opportunity for us to identify who we want to hire and for you to learn about the corporate world.”

Unilever recruited interns from several public and private universities through campus programmes that were conducted between June 13 and 25.

Extensive branding and promotion of the programme was done on the campuses of DU, NSU, EWU, BRACU and IBA-JU through interactive sessions, where existing interns of the company from respective universities shared their work experiences with their fellow juniors and classmates.

The official Facebook page of the programme titled “Unilever Bangladesh in Your Campus”enabled students to get updated news about the details of the event and enhanced interactions of students with the multinational company.

The response from the 800+ students was overwhelming. Although the internship opportunity is open for final year students only, the on-campus interactive sessions enabled undergraduates to obtain valuable insights about the company’s recruitment process, and tips and tricks on how to prepare for their career start up.

Taslima Jaigirdir, Leadership Development Manager and the leading assessor of the recruitment sessions, said: “CGPA is an indicator of how sincere and committed you were during the four years of your undergraduate programme.

However, beyond CGPA we look into your extra-curricular activities and other achievements. We take a holistic view to assess on how you have utilised the time at the university to develop your skills and abilities.”

The applicants went through a two-phase assessment, which comprised of an in-tray exercise, followed by an interview session during the intern selection round. Out of the 50 short-listed candidates, 16 have been

chosen from the aforementioned universities as interns of UBL. One of the new interns, Samia Rahman, exhilarated about receiving confirmation of her internship a year ahead of her graduation said: “The process of selection is very competitive which ensures fairness.”

The main objective of such an extensive internship recruitment programme is to engage with students from different universities and preselecting the top performers. UBL’s pioneering internship recruitment programme adds value to their transparent hiring process.
