Already named MVP of the Confederations Cup tournament, Brazil’s Neymar is also in the running for best goal of the just-completed tourney, FIFA said Tuesday.
The latest star to join FC Barcelona was the author of three of the 10 goals nominated for the honor, soccer’s world governing body said. FIFA spotlighted goals by Neymar against Japan and Italy as well as his contribution to host nation Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Spain in the Confederations Cup final.
Another Brazilian, Jo, was nominated for a tally against Mexico, while Uruguay’s Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan are in the competition with goals against Spain and Nigeria, respectively. Spain is represented in the persons of Roberto Soldado and Jordi Alba, recognized for goals scored against Uruguay and Nigeria.
Completing the list are tallies by Italians Andrea Pirlo, against Mexico, and Emanuele Giaccherini, against Brazil. Fans have until Wednesday to cast their votes among the 10 nominees for best goal of the tournament. l
