Professor Khondakar Ashraf Hossain dies

Vice Chancellor of the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University in Mymensingh, Professor Dr Khondakar Ashraf Hossain died this morning.

The ailing professor was being treated at the Lab Aid Hospital in the capital when he breathed his last at the age of 63.

The former professor of English of Dhaka University had joined the Kazi Nazrul University as the vice chancellor just 41 days ago.

He got admitted to the Lab Aid Hospital couple of days ago with cardiac complaints.

Born in Jamalpur in 1950, he was educated at University of Dhaka and Leeds University in England.

Apart from being a professor of English Literature and Language at the University of Dhaka, Khondakar Ashraf was also a leading poet of the country.

“Tin Ramanir Qasida,” “Partho Tomar Teebro Teer” and “Jibaner Saman Chumuk” are some of the notable collections of his Bangla poems.

He was also the editor of the literary magazine “Ekabingsha.”
