GP to reduce price of internet package

Grameenphone, the leading mobile operator in Bangladesh, has decided to reduce the prices of internet data used in mobile phones by its subscribers.

However, it would take approximately three weeks to implement the initiative, said a source placed in Grameenphone.

“We have decided to reduce the prices of different internet packages,” the source said adding the process of implementing the initiative has already begun.

As part of the decision, the market leader is planning to launch P1 or pay-as-you-go package, officials said.

Grameenphone has claimed that there are only operator having a cap on P1 bill. A user can not spend over TK 200 in a month by using the P1 package.

Mahmud Hossain, chief corporate affairs officer of Grameenphone said, “As a costumer centric organisation, we review the internet price positively, especially the P1. And, the package will be declared shortly.”

Earlier, on Tuesday, a section of people formed a human chain in city’s Banani demanding reduction of prices of internet dada offered by the mobile phone operators.

Some ICT-based organisations arranged the protest programme. The demonstrators will futher organise a sit-in-programme in front of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s office in Ramna in the capital on Wednesday to press home their demand.

Last week, BTRC officials while sat in a meeting with the officials of mobile operators requested the mobile phone operators to review the prices of internet packages, especially the P1.
