BNP lawmakers walk out from parliament

Update : 03 Jun 2013, 02:00 PM

The BNP lawmakers on Monday walked out of parliament protesting the speech of ruling Awami League’s home minister.

The party lawmakers came out from the House within two-and-half hours from joining the 18th session of the 9th Jatiya Sangsad after a long absence since March 20, 2011.

The party lawmakers, led by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, entered the main hall of the House at around 5:45pm.

The lawmakers walked out from the House around 8pm.

However, Khaleda left the parliament premises during the break in the session for offering Magrib prayers.

Earlier this afternoon, BNP’s parliamentary party at a meeting decided to join the session. Jamaat-e-Islami MP Hamidur Rahman Azad was also present at the meeting, headed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The 18th session of the 9th Jatiya Sangsad parliamentary session and the budget session of 2013 began at around 5:30pm. President M Abdul Hamid summoned the session as per Article 72 of the constitution.

In this session, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will place the national budget for 2013-14 on June 6.

This will be the fifth and the last budget of the Awami League-led grand alliance government.
