BNP joins parliament after two years

The main opposition BNP has joined parliament after a long absence since March 20, 2011.

The party lawmakers, led by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, entered the main hall of the House at around 5:45pm on Monday.

At an earlier meeting, BNP’s parliamentary party decided to join the session. Jamaat-e-Islami MP Hamidur Rahman Azad was also present at the meeting, headed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The 18th session of the 9th Jatiya Sangsad parliamentary session and the budget session of 2013 began at around 5:30pm.

President M Abdul Hamid summoned the session as per Article 72 of the constitution.

In this session, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will place the national budget for 2013-14 on June 6.

This will be the fifth and the last budget of the Awami League-led grand alliance government.
