A Dhaka court on Sunday granted bail to BNP lawmakers Barkatullah Bulu and MK Anwar in separate cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Jahirul Haque passed the order responding to defence lawyer Sanaullah Miah’s plea which narrated that the opposition lawyers need to join the forthcoming budget session of the parliament.
Anwar, also a standing committee member of the main opposition BNP, was sent to jail on charge of ‘instigating religious sentiments and causing defamation’ while Bulu, a joint secretary general of the party, was arrested on May 15 on charges of assaulting the police, exploding bomb and vandalism.
Earlier, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury had spoken for the release of Anwar and Bulu, helping them to join the parliament session. She, however, said that release of the lawmakers should be done following the due legal process.
The budget session of the present government will begin on Monday.
