Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad claimed he will come out as a winner even if the heads of the two main political parties unitedly contest in the upcoming national elections against him.
He said: “I will bring the good governance back in the country by contesting and winning the national polls.”
He came up with the determination while speaking at the reception accorded to Dr Captain M Rezaul Karim held at the party’s Banani office 11:30am, reports banglanews.
While talking about hartals that were enforced by both Awami League and BNP during his tenure, he said: “Despite of enforcing hartals for a total of 371 days during my ruling they failed to hinder the development activities.”
Criticising the ruling party leaders, JP Chairman said: “Those who are believers of Allah and Islam, are being termed as Jamaatis and Hefazaties. But, I am warning you that nobody can stay in the power by criticising Islam.”
Regarding the “dialogue” issue, the former President of the country said, “People used to discuss about the dialogue issue in the television talk shows, roads and tea stalls couple of days back but they have stopped talking about it now.”
The former president said, “Both Hasina and Khaleda criticised me for sending soldiers to Iraq, even they called hartals protesting it. But, now more than10, 000 soldiers are working for UN peace commission.”
He urged the top two women leaders of the country to amend the constitution and restore the presidential government system implemented by Bangabandhu and Ziaur Rahman.
