Chhayanaut’s Nazrul Utsob ends

At the advent of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 114th birth anniversary, the country’s cultural arena is now buzzing with varied programmes which give a brief sketch of the flamboyant life and works of the poet.

Chhayanaut’s tribute to the rebel poet was a two-day commemorative programme titled “Nazrul Utsob-1420” which concluded Saturday at the cultural organisation’s main auditorium in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Highlighting the poet’s inspirational works, the leading artistes celebrated the secularist and revolutionary spirit of Nazrul on the backdrop of the current turbulent situation of the country. The event featured discussion, musical performances, dance recital and recitation. A total of 200 artistes took part in the festival. Moreover, Chhayyanaut also celebrated the 91st anniversary of the famous publication of the poet's extraordinary poem “Bidrohi.”

“Nazrul Utsob 1420” was opened with the speech of Professor Sanatkumar Shaha and the cultural programmes started with a vibrant dance performance choreographed by eminent dancer Sharmila Banerjee with the chorus recital of the song “Karar Oi Louho Kopat.” Then, the students of Chhayanaut rendered “Tora Shob Joyodhoni Kor,” and “Ei Amader Bangladesh” in chorus. An array of solo performance also enriched the programme. Tanvir Ahmed presented “Andh Khana Chad Hashiche Akashe,” and Afsana Runa sang a Nazrul’s romantic piece “Mukhe Keno Nahi Bolo” among others. Some timeless Nazrul Geetis on the theme of monsoon were especially sung by the solo performers on the rainy evening. Ahkam Ullah and Ishrat Ferdousy recited Nazrul’s famous poems.

The programme featured performances of prominent singers like Shahin Samad, Ferdous Ara, Yeakub Ali Khan, Khairul Anam Shakil, Kalpana Anam, Lina Tapashi Khan, Yeasmin Mushtarin, Mofijur Rahman, Abhijit Kundo and many more. Besides, celebrated dancers Munmun Ahmed, Warda Rihab and her troupe presented a dazzling recital on the occasion. The festival is joint collaboration by Grameenphone, Masrangaa and Square Group of Industries.
