National champion GM Niaz Murshed beat Indian GM Parimarjan Negi in the 5th round of the Open championship of Asian Continental Chess Championships at Manila yesterday.
Niaz played with black pieces and continued to French Defense and won in 45 moves. The win took Niaz’s tally to 3.5 points. Meanwhile, Sharmin Sultana Shirin, the national women’s champion, lost her 5th round game against Romero Gladys Hazelle of Philippines.
Meanwhile, another Bangladeshi GM Enamul Hossain Razib drew with Georgian GM Merab Gagunashvili in the 4th round of the Elite Category of the 5th Kiit International Chess Festival at Odissa yesterday. With the draw Razib earned 3.5 points and shared the 2nd position with seven other players.
At the end of the 4th round, GM Ziaur Rahman and FM Nasir Ahmed earned 2.5 points each, IM Abu Sufian Shakil and Debaraj Chatterjee earned 3 points each, FM Mehdi Hasan Parag, Abdullah Al-Saif and WIM Rani Hamid earned 1.5 points each. Nasir drew with Indian GM Abhijit Kunte, Zia beat FM Rakesh Kumar Jena, Saif beat Wettasinha Vasanta of Sri Lanka, Shakil drew with Pranav Vijay of India, Debaraj drew with Krishna Teja of India.
