Biplob’s paintings weep over the sadness of recent times

Update : 22 May 2013, 04:11 AM

Promising young talent Biplob Goswami’s solo exhibition titled “Grief of Time” expresses the sensitive artist’s depression on the ongoing anomalies all over the world. The art show at the Dhaka Art Centre is open for all and will continue till May 26.

His awareness of the social and political anarchy of the present day Bangladesh has prompted him to paint the scenario as he deemed it his obligation.

The gifted youngster believes that truth should not be veiled but voiced with confidence that justice should prevail. The present day anarchic situation is enough to cloud the judgement of a commoner but a sensitive mind could not resist questioning himself. We never have time enough to contemplate the answers, but Biplob acts as a representative of our generation by stepping forward to reveal the grief, anger and dispute through his art. An artistic expression of human anguish is depicted thoroughly, screaming visage, subservience and agony is portrayed by use of burnt amber brown and dark red.

The space created by reducing the elements in a composition is also a noteworthy achievement of the artist.

Biplob has a straightforward and dogmatic voice which he tried to contemplate with the use of dark colour and angular patterns that formed a well executed texture in the composition. Being a very bright student his dexterity in rendering the semi abstract paintings in large dimension and his ability as an artist is beyond question.

Choosing only 17 paintings for his first solo not only justifies the statement but also depicts his bold and serious step. “It gives more exposure and do justice to a painting if a small number of paintings with large dimension are displayed in an exhibition”- said the legendary artist Kibria.

Biplob finished his M F A from Rabindra Bharati University and recently passed out from the Faculty of Visual Arts in 2012. His exhibition was inaugurated by Eminent Artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury on May 17, and special guests of the occasion were Indian Deputy High Commissioner Sandeep Chakraborty and art critique Moinuddian Khaled.
