Probe against Azhar in Rangpur

Update : 18 May 2013, 04:30 AM

Prosecution of International Crime Tribunal will soon submit its investigation report on crimes against humanity committed by ATM Azaharul Islam, an assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Prosecutor Zead-Al-Malum said the investigation agency had got sufficient evidence and witnesses of mass killing, rape, arson and kidnapping done by Azharul Islam in greater Rangpur region during the liberation war in 1971.

A five member investigation team led by prosecutor Zead-Al-Malum came to Rangpur on Friday and exchanged views with journalists and people at Rangpur circuit house in the evening.

He said those accused of war crimes were trying to stop their trial through their allies, friends and relatives home and abroad for the last forty two years after the Liberation War.

He urged the people to extend their cooperation to the prosecution so that the trial of all war criminals could be done properly.

Azharul was arrested in August last year. He was the president of the Rangpur unit of the Islami Chattra Sangha, the then student wing of Jamaat, in 1971.
