A total of 16 among the 251 submitted nomination papers for the upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election have been declared void after scrutiny of the nomination papers ended on May 16.
However, a final hearing in this regard is expected to be held on Sunday, election officials informed.
Shubash Chandra Sarker, regional election officer of Rajshahi, said two of the 69 submitted nomination papers for the reserved seats and 14 of the 176 councillor candidates were declared void due to some faults.
Loan defaults and faults in filling the nomination papers mainly caused the rejection, sources informed.
When contacted over phone, district election officer Saiful Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that a final decision would be taken on Sunday after the final hearing regarding the faults of the nomination papers.
According to the election schedule, the last date of withdrawing nomination paper is May 26, while the poll is due to be held on June 15.
