Capital city Dhaka, along with many other districts, especially coastal ones, has been experiencing strong rain and winds due to the effects of cyclonic storm Mahasen since early Thursday.
Condition in most districts is cloudy and hazy while a few southern parts of the country have seen thunderstorms.
The capital has been experiencing continuous drizzle and mild winds since around 4:30am Thursday.
Commuters and school and office-goers were facing enormous difficulties in finding transportation.
Heavy traffic has already gridlocked many parts of the city.
According to a Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) special bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at most places over Chittagong, Barisal and Khulna divisions and at a few places over Dhaka and Sylhet divisions during next 24 hours commencing from 6am Thursday due to the influence of the cyclonic storm.
The forecast also says storm surge of eight to ten feet height above normal astronomical tide may inundate the low-lying areas of the 15 coastal districts.
Strong rains have been reported in Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalkati, Bagherhat, Khulna and Satkhira districts.
The BMD bulletin also issued landslide warning at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong division due to very heavy rainfall.
