Photo story: As Mahasen approaches

The feared impact of Mahasen can be devastating. During "the calm before the storm” the whole country has resorted to restless prayers and the authorities have taken the responsibilities of taking safety precautions on their shoulders. They have been evacuating locals from the coastal areas of Bangladesh due to the upcoming cyclone. Under the influence of Mahasen, the low-lying coastal areas of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna and Satkhira, and their offshore islands and chars (shoals) are likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 5-7 feet high above normal astronomical tide.
