A housewife named Helena Akter, 20, was allegedly killed by her husband in Tarail upazila in Kishoreganj yesterday.

Helena’s father, UP chairman of Muktola Union in Iswarganj upazila of Mymensingh Abdul Manna, said that Helena had married 25-year old Bakul Mia of Mougaon village in Tarail upazila around six months ago.

Bakul used to torture Helena over trivial family matters and on Sunday night, the couple fought, which Helena’s father thinks might have led to the death.

The body was sent to Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for a post mortem examination.

Bazlur Rahman, officer - in – charge (OC) of Tarail police station said they were trying to arrest the accused husband as soon as possible and the victim’s father has filed a murder case with Tarail police station.

In another incident, on Saturday, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law allegedly murdered 19-year old housewife Marufa Akter of Ratanpur village in the same upazila of Kishoreganj district over a family feud.

Police recovered the body from a field on Saturday at 10am and arrested brother – in- law Rafiqul Islam and his wife Hima Akter. In preliminary query, they admitted the killing Marufa, said OC Bazlur.

Marufa married Atakul Mia of Sarrong village in Tarail around two months ago and had been regularly tortured since, according to Marufa’s mother, Safia Akter.

A murder case has been lodged with Tarail police station.

In Natore, Gurudaspur police recovered a floating body from Atrai River near Hordoma Rabardam of Biyaghat union of Gurudaspur upazila early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Safura, 35, of Jogendranagar-Modhyopara village of the area.
