A madrasa girl was abducted from her maternal grandfather’s residence in Samarsing village in Gournadi upazila, Barisal, in the early hours Saturday.
Family and police sources said Suman Khan had been making romantic advances towards Ruma Aktar, 14, a class 8 student of Magura Nesaria Dakhil Madrasa.
Unable to curb the situation, Ruma’s parents removed her from school sent her to her grandfather’s house in Barisal, said Ilias Sardar, Ruma’s maternal uncle.
He alleged that Suman, upon hearing the news, came to Barisal with Hemayet Howlader and Zohurul Farazi, and kidnapped Ruma from the house at around 3am.
Hearing the hue and cry of her relatives, locals rushed to the scene. After a one-hour search, locals detained and beat Hemayet and handed him over to police. The other two managed to flee, taking the girl with them.
Ilias lodged a case against Suman, Hemayet and Zohurul, said Abul Kalam Azad, the Gournadi police station officer in charge (OC).
The judicial magistrate court denied bail and sent Hemayet to jail, the OC said, adding that police continued the drive to rescue the abducted girl.
