The trend of breaking previous records in the results of SSC and equivalent examinations continues this year.
A record percentage of students passed the SSC examinations this year held in February and March while achieving a record number of grades breaking all the previous records, according to the results published on Thursday.
This year the combined pass rate is 89.03%, which is a 2.66 percentage point increase than last year. The pass rate was 86.37% last year and 82.31% in 2011.
A total of 91,226 students got GPA 5 this year. As many as 82,212 students got the highest grade score last year.
This year, a total of 1,297,034 examinees – 665,878 male and 631,156 female – from 27,072 educational institutions sat for the examinations at 2,758 examination centres. Of them, 1,154,778 students passed the examinations.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally announced the results at the Secretariat at 1pm. After the announcement, the results were available at the educational institutes. The results can also be known through SMS and on the website of the education board.
Earlier in the morning, the minister ceremonially handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
To hear the results, thousands of students and guardians gathered at the schools since the morning.
This year, male students performed well than those female. The pass rate in male students is 89.18% and 52,392 male students got GPA 5 while 88.88% female students passed SSC this year with 38,834 achieving the highest grade.
In terms of mediums – general education, madrasa education and vocational education system – the students from general education performed the best.
The pass rate in the general education is 89.72% and 77,381 students got GPA 5. Last year, it was 86.32% and 65,252 got GPA 5.
The pass rate in Madrasa Education Board is 89.13% and 9,673 students got the GPA 5. Last year the pass rate was 88.47%.
The pass rate in Vocational education system is 81.13% and 4,172 students got GPA 5. Last year, the pass rate was 80.69% when 3,524 students got GPA 5.
Among the eight general education boards, the highest, 94.03% students passed in Rajshahi while the lowest in Chittagong Education Board, 88.04%.
This year, 100% students of 5,092 educational institutions passed the SSC examinations. Last year, it was 3,377.
A total of 285 students took the examination at seven overseas centres. Of them, 277 students came out successful with 97.19% pass rate while 75 of them got GPA 5.
