Dhaka University (DU) teachers on Tuesday condemned the “vandalism and anarchy” that Hefazat-e-Islam carried out in the capital on Sunday.
They came down heavily on the Islamist outfit at a rally in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla on the university premises at noon.
The DU teachers also demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in damaging the city and causing public suffering.
Professor Aktaruzzaman said: “Those who said irresponsible things about university education don’t know the culture, heritage and history of the nation.”
University treasurer Kamal Uddin said: “The activities of Hefazat-e-Islam are against the values of the War of Liberation. We condemn their move, and demand punishment for their misdeeds.”
Prof Azizur Rahman, Prof Ajay Kumar Das, Prof Fariduddin Ahmed, Prof ABM Faruq and Prof Inam- ul Haq were also present at the rally.
