6 more die in Hefazat-cops clash in Narayanganj

At least six people were killed and more than 100 were injured as activists of Hefazat-e-Islam locked into sporadic clashes with law enforcers in different points on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Narayanganj in the morning after being chased out from Motijheel early Monday. Death toll may increase according to hospital sources.

Among the deceased three were law enforcers and three other were passersby. One of the deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, resident of Araihazar Hefazat activists locked into clashes and chase and counter chase with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police in Siddirganj, reported Banglanews. Police fired bullets, rubber bullets and tear shells to take the situation under control. Agitated activists set fire on tires on the highway and vehicular movements were halted. Hefazat activists also confronted police in Simrail and Signboard area. Earlier in the day, thousands of activists of Hefazat-e-Islam fled from Motijheel and Shapla Chattar following combined drive of Rapid Action Battalion, police and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel.
