A pistol and five rounds of ammunition were found under the debris of Rana Plaza at Savar on Friday.
Commander of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Major KM Ariful Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that at around 12.15am rescuers recovered the pistol, along with five rounds of bullets, under the debris and handed them over to Rab.
The pistol and bullets were recovered from Rana’s office, a detective branch official said.
They were later handed over to the investigation officer of the two cases filed with Savar Police station in connection with the building collapse, the Rab-4 official said.
Rana Plaza, which housed five garment factories, a branch of Brac Bank and a shopping complex, collapsed on April 24, trappingthousands of people inside it. The death toll from the collapse crossed 500 on the tenth day of rescue operations.
After the incident two caseswere filed with Savar police station in this regard. Sub-Inspector Wali Ashraf Khan filed a case under sections 337/338/304(ka)/34 of the Bangladesh penal code against six people including the owner of Rana Plaza for their irresponsible activitiesleading to people’s deaths.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Helal Ahmed, authorised officer of Razuk, filed another case against SohelRana under section 12 of the Building Construction Act 1952, for not maintaining the Bangladesh National Building code.
