Govt appoints Padma design consultant

Update : 29 Apr 2013, 11:18 AM

The government has appointed a consultant firm of New Zealand, Maunsell AECOM Ltd, for construction of the Padma Bridge project.

The decision came from a meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchase today.

Earlier, finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said: “Maunsell AECOM Ltd would look after seven issues like the main bridge design, river training, Jajira point approach road, service areas, construction supervision and management support consultants.”

“The firm will conduct a study on variation of the expenditure along with six issues for construction of the bridge,” he told reporters, after a meeting with the leaders of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh at his secretariat office in Dhaka on Sunday.

Muhith said that the construction of Padma Bridge will be government funded and the design will be moderately altered. “A decision on construction of the bridge will be finalised in the first week of next month.”
