A courting couple committed suicide by hanging themselves with a rope at Jirunda village in Lakhai upazila of the district early Friday, says UNB.
The deceased were identified as Sohel, 22, son of Abdul Awal, and Halima, 20, daughter of Azizul Hoque-– both residents of the village.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Nazimuddin Chowdhury of Lakhai Police Station said Sohel and Halima had been in a romantic relationship for long, which their families did not accept.
As sequel to it, the couple committed suicide by hanging themselves from a tree with a rope at a graveyard in the dead of night on Thursday.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to district hospital morgue for autopsy, added the OC.
An unnatural death (UD) case was filed in this connection.
