Legendary folk-singer Abdur Rahman Boyati is critically ill and was admitted to Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) on April 21.
This septuagenarian has been suffering for a long time from age related illness and this is the sixth time he has been admitted with the same complications. JBFH had pledged a lifelong treatment bearing all the necessary costs involving medical and hospital bills, said Mahmudul Alam Babu, Director Operation and Marketing of JBFH. He also told Dhaka Tribune that a medical board for Rahman Boyati is formed, consisting three specialists, and his situation is monitored 24 hours. If necessary, he will be transferred to the ICU.
His son Alam Rahman said, albeit JBFH’s help, the family of the eminent singer is suffering from financial crises to bear the cost of his treatment.
“Even though my father is regarded as a voice of our country’s folk song, we are not getting any support from the Government.” Alam mentioned that in a similar condition on March 2011, Cultural Minister Abul Kalam Azad paid a visit to Abdur Rahamn Boyati and sanctioned a good amount of money for his treatment from Government fund.
Those who are kind enough to contribute for Rahman’s treatment are requested to contact 01712848776 (Alam Rahman) as early as possible because of the deteriorating condition of the singer.
