BNP-led 18-party alliance withdrew their nationwide hartal following the collapse of a building this morning which claimed at least 80 lives.
In a press briefing at the Nayapaltan BNP office at about 3:30pm, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, advisor to the party chairperson, made the announcement for withdrawing the hartal.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the incident.
She called upon the government to take immediate steps to speed up the rescue drive and compensate the victims in the quickest possible time.
Earlier in the morning, Dudu conveyed the party chief’s message and made the announcement for relaxing the hartal in Savar area through another press conference.
