Police recovered the body of a treasurer of North East University from his house in the city’s Sheikhghat area on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Dr Mohammad Abdullah, 61, treasurer of newly established North East University, Sylhet and a resident of house 56 at Shekhghat.
University sources said several employees of the university went to the deceased's home in the morning after failing to contact him (Abdullah) over the phone to find his body hanging in his room.
Upon being informed, police recovered the body at about 4pm, and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Memorial Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Later, a police CID team investigated the scene.
Sub-Inspector Mobashir of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station stated that it was unsure whether it was a suicide or murder, and that they would know more upon further investigation.
