The Directorate of Primary Education (dpe) has proposed introducing an office assistant post in government primary schools to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education in order to relieve teachers from clerical tasks.
“The ministry is seriously considering this and we hope the post will be introduced soon for government primary schools. Teachers can be more attentive if they do not have to do clerical tasks”, said Shyamal Kanti Ghosh, the director general of dpe.
There are 37,000 government primary schools in the country and none of them have an office assistant.
Teachers welcomed the initiative and said it would allow them to concentrate more on teaching. Among the tasks that teachers currently perform that would fall upon the office assistant are collecting books from upazila education office at the beginning of the year, managing examinations and sending scripts to relevant offices.
