People from all walks of life formed a human chain and staged a demonstration in Banglabazaar and Alekanda areas of the city yesterday to demand the immediate arrest of the killers of schoolboy Inan.

Samir Rafi Inan, 16, a class X student of Barisal Government Zila School and only son of Zahangir Hossain Tanu, a contractor of Baro Bari Lane in Banglabazaar area of the city, was beaten to death by hoodlums on Saturday, following an altercation over a cricket game.

Inan’s father lodged a murder case with Barisal Kotwali Police Station on Monday accusing seven youths - Rifat, Rishad, Shimon, Hasan, Rana, Jumman and Sourav – of the crime.

Later, locals handed Sourav over to police.

Meanwhile, police detained the father of Rifat and Rishad, Jatiya Party leader Gafur. Gafur was released within a few hours.

Demonstrators claimed that the accused and their families have been threatening dire consequences for Inan’s family if the case is not withdraw.

The protestors vowed that if law enforcers do not arrest the culprits and ensure their punishment, they will plan a stronger movement.
