Bangladesh wins gold medals in 22nd Int’l Robot Olympiad

Junior teams have bagged gold medals for three years straight in the creative category

Bangladesh has won two gold, two silver, five bronze medals, and six technical awards in the 22nd International Robot Olympiad (IRO) held in Daegu, South Korea.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the robotics olympiad was held online this year. The Bangladeshi teams participated from BCS Innovation Centre in Dhaka on December 13 and 14 of 2020, said a press release.

This year’s theme for the International Robotics Olympiad was Robot: The Future Transportation.

In the “Creative category” of the competition, the junior groups of Bangladesh have bagged gold medals for three year in a row.

The junior team, Robo Sparkers, consisting of Misbah Uddin lnan of Chattogram Cantonment Public College and Zaima Jahin Wara of William Carey Academy, won the gold medals in the Creative category.

While in the challenge group, Nasheetat Zainah Rahman of Sunbeams and Quazi Mostahid Labib of Chittagong Grammar School-Dhaka of team RoboTigers won gold in the “Robot in Movie” category of the competition.

RoboTigers also won a silver in the Creative Category. And, junior team, Robo Dreamers, won a silver in Robot in Movie category.

Robo Sparkers won a bronze medal in Robot in Movie category.

Team ROBOLUTION, bagged two bronze medals in both the categories.

Meanwhile, RoboBangla and junior team Tiger-71 bagged two other bronze medals in the creative category.

Last but not the least, TEAM_MATRIX, RoboBangla, and Monami, and junior teams, Robo Verse, Robo Dreamers, and Tiger 71, won the six Technical Awards. 

In 2018, Bangladesh participated for the first time in the International Robot Olympiad and had won one gold and one technical award. In 2019, Bangladeshi Robot Olympiad teams won one gold, two silver, and six bronze medals with one technical award in the 21st International Robot Olympiad (IRO).
