Butterfly Industries Ltd in collaboration with South Korea-based electronic manugafturing giant LG set up its first ever television manufacturing facility in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday.
Jong Won Kim, trade representative at the South Korean embassy in Dhaka, inaugurated the facility at an event held on the factory premises.
The facility has been set up on 120,000 sq feet of land, and around 500 people have been working there.
Tanvir Alam, head of the unit’s operations, said the Butterfly would manufacture 10 models of television at the unit with the support of LG.
Also, Butterfly and LG have plans to set up an air conditioner plant and a refrigerator plant next year, he added.
Butterfly Industries Ltd Chairman MA Mannan said: "Butterfly and LG will be able to provide televisions at affordable prices due to this plant. We will manufacture TVs ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 so that football lovers can buy LG TVs at affordable price”
Among others, LG TV Asia Vice President Gerald Chun and LG Bangladesh Managing Director Edward Kim were also present at the program.
