Shapla Aktar and Alina Sultana are the only participants from host Bangladesh to win a medal in the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Challenge as the local shuttler duo won bronze, despite losing the women’s doubles semi-final yesterday.
It was a tough challenge for Shapla-Alina pair in the last four as they lost the game by 21-3, 21-7 against top-ranked Malaysian shuttlers Vivian Hoo and Yap Cheng Wen at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the afternoon.
The Malaysian pair will face second-ranked Aparna Balan and Sruthi KP in the final of the women’s doubles.
Vietnamese top-ranked shuttler Thuy Linh Nguyen and 16-year-old Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia reached the women’s singles final.
