Archery team reaches quarters for the first time

Though the mixed team however comprising Md Ruman Shana and Nasrin Akter lost to Japan by 5-1 sets in the last-eight battle, the Bangladesh pair already achieved the archery federation’s target of reaching the quarterfinals.

Bangladesh recurve mixed team made it into the quarterfinals of the men’s recurve mixed team event for the first time in history at the Asian Games after beating Kazakhstan by 5-4 sets at the GBK Archery field in Jakarta on Friday.

Though the mixed team however comprising Md Ruman Shana and Nasrin Akter lost to Japan by 5-1 sets in the last-eight battle, the Bangladesh pair already achieved the archery federation’s target of reaching the quarterfinals.

The Bangladeshi pair lost to Tomomi Sugimoto and Takaharu Furukawa.  Both the Japanese players are ranked among the top 50 in the world rankings while Ruman and Nasrin are ranked 64th and 194th respectively. They outplayed Farida Tukebayeva and Ilfat Adullin in a hard-fought battle in the 1/8 eliminations round.

Bangladesh compound mixed team comprising Ashim Kumar Das and Roksana Akter reached the 1/8 elimination round but couldn’t make it further after losing against Philippines by 154-149 points at the same venue that day.
