ABFIP Presidential Cup Baseball: Bangladesh beat India in opener
Bangladesh began their ABFIP Presidential Cup Baseball Tournament campaign on a winning note as they beat host India by 33-12 points in Guwahati, Assam Tuesday. Bangladesh will face Nepal in their next match at the same venue Wednesday. The eight-nation tournament has been organised by Amateur Baseball Federation of India. The eight teams – host India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq, Bhutan and Bangladesh – have been divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The final will be held Saturday. The 28-member Bangladesh contingent, comprising 19 players and nine officials, left for Assam Friday. It should be mentioned that ever since the game of baseball was introduced in Bangladesh in 2006, the country has not taken part in any international tournament. This is Bangladesh's first ever appearance in an international baseball tournament and the men in red and green began their mission in some style, outclassing the home side in the tournament opener.
