Host Bangladesh will face Maldives in their second Group A match in the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship at Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur Monday.
Bangladesh won their first match against Nepal by 3-1 sets. Nepal however, kept alive their hope of qualifying for the last four after beating Maldives by 3-0 sets Sunday so Bangladesh have to win against Maldives to go through to the semi-final.
Maldives still have a chance of advancing to the last four if they beat the home side convincingly but Bangladesh camp is confident they can continue their winning momentum against the visiting team.
“We will play for a win against Maldives. We don’t want to give them any chance. We defeated them last time and we are hoping to do the same again. Every opponent are competitive in a tournament like this. So we are not taking anyone lightly,” said Bangladesh captain Horshid Biswas to the media Sunday.
In a Group B match Sunday, Turkmenistan defeated Kyrgyzstan by 3-0 sets.
A total of six teams are participating in this tournament. Bangladesh have been pitted in Group A along with Nepal and Maldives. Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan make up Group B.
