Bangladesh swimmer Jewel Ahmed managed to improve on his previous timing but failed to qualify from the heat after clocking 1:03.55s in the men’s 100m backstroke event of the 17th Fina World Championship at Danube Arena in Budapest, Hungary on Monday.
Jewel took part in the opening heat where he finished sixth out of seven participants, only ahead of a Mongolian swimmer.
In the overall heat, his position is 45th out of 46 even though he improved his best timing, which is 1:2.41s.
The Bangladesh Army swimmer from Kushtia also participated in the World Championship 2015 in Kazan where his timing of 1:4.24s saw him finish 62nd out of 70 participants.
Jewel will also take part in the 50m backstroke event on Saturday where he was placed 58th out of 68 swimmers in the last edition, with a timing of 29.10s.
Jewel’s personal best in this event is 28.05s.
