Abahani return to winning ways

With nine wins and their only defeat coming against arch-rival Mohammedan, the Sky Blues now have 27 points, three behind leader Mohammedan

Reigning runners-up side Abahani Limited returned to winning ways in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League after beating Sonali Bank Sporting Club 9-1 at Maulana Bhasani National Stadium in Dhaka Friday. 

Youngster Roman Sarkar scored twice, in the 24th and 68th minute, while drag-and-flick specialist Ashraful Islam also added a brace, netting from penalty corners in the 58th and 69th minute. 

Malaysian striker Tajuddin Ahmed, Taher Ali, Indian Gunashekar Malayalan and U-16 forward Mohammad Mohsin added one each in the 27th, 30th, 37th and 41st minute respectively. New Indian signing Shailendra Bundela added the other from a penalty stroke in the 33rd minute. Deen Islam Emon scored the consolation goal for Sonali Bank.

Meanwhile in the day's other match, Wari Club handed Police Club a 7-1 defeat with Samir Roy scoring twice for the winning side. Billal Hossain, Ovi, Ashiq Mahmud and Suprajit added one each while Mahfuzur Rahman scored the consolation goal for Police.
