National team’s star striker took her goal-tally to 25 from ten matches
Bashundhara Kings captain Sabina Khatun netted four goals to lead her side’s thrashing 15-0 win over Cumilla United Tuesday to almost secure the Women’s Football League title with a couple of games in hand.
National team’s star striker took her goal-tally to 25 from ten matches to touch her personal best which she recorded in champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club jersey during the competition’s debut edition nine years ago. She needs five more goals in next two outings to set a new record in women’s league.
Sabina’s record was broken by Aung Mra Ching Marma during the league’s second and last edition in 2013. Aung Mra Ching scored 29 goals for champions Abahani who beat Sabina’s Mohammedan to lift the title. Neither Abahani, nor Aung Mra is competing in the ongoing competition. Sabina carried on becoming all-time leading scorer in domestic football with 256 goals so far by her name.
Bashundhara are only a step away from securing the silverware in their debut campaign. They have won all ten matches quite dominatingly with 30 points scoring 91 goals and conceding only once. Nasrin Sports Academy is nine points behind playing one less game. One more point for Kings or Nasrin losing point in any of the next fixtures would officially ensure the title.
On Tuesday during gigantic victory over sixth-placed Cumilla, national midfielder Krishna Rani Sarkar also stuck a quadruple to remain as second leading scorer with 19 goals. Sheuli Azim scored a brace while Tohura Khatun, Akhi Khatun, Monika Chakma, Masura Parvin and Shamsunnahar added one each.
